    Week 8 Reflection: Ads

I found a great website that talks about running ads for food site’s. It’s actually a site I already go to frequently. Neil Patel. He first talks about an effective ad is all about visual storytelling. My images will sell the ad more than any words I use. I know when I am looking for a recipe online, if the pictures don’t look amazing, I usually don’t take them that seriously. Another thing to take seriously are the colors I choose for the site/ad. I also need to decided on my brand’s personality. I have researched all the social media channels, and decided the first one I will tackle is Pinterest since it’s…

Week 7- Google Ads and Keywords

With keyword searching, I started off with some of the first recipes I made. I looked up a few at a time with what I already thought was a good search term. I found some recipes like white bread and peanut butter cookies were too high in the competition field. They have been getting lost in the shuffle. Some of recipes I also have are too simple and not getting searches. One surprise I found was that even though I never baked anything gluten free, keto, low sugar, or sugar free, it constantly came up with the recipes, I currently made. It seems like keyword planner was telling me, “I know you said…

    Week 6- Legal Structure

One thing I really appreciated this week, was our discussion boards for this class. Discussing taxes and legal issues for businesses, overwhelms me. Reading what my other classmates wrote, what they found out, asking questions, and having other classmates give their advice back was very helpful. This week I did research on licenses and taxes for the state of Texas. (where I live.) I plan on going the sole proprietorship route for my business. I live in Texas, and business taxes are different than other states. Texas charges small business taxes as franchise taxes. This is different from a corporate income tax. Business taxes are low in Texas. There is no personal income…

    Week 5- Site Design

In order to have a successful online business, well any business actually, is to be consistent. There’s a lot of work that goes in with building a business behind the scenes. There’s going to be a lot of sacrifice, especially in the beginning, with time spent on getting the business going. I need to be organized, be a good planner, and be flexible when things change last minute. Doing research on my competitors is key on learning what I like, and learning what is working and not working for my competitor. Even though I’m not dealing with customers yet, I know in the future I will. Having great customer service is key, besides…

Week 4- Reflection: Site Builder and Host

This past week we researched all about site builders and hosting companies. I have purchased my host and domain through SiteGround. I made sure to go through WordPress.org, so it would be free to use, and I could use Google Analytics. We went over the monthly and yearly costs to keep a site up and running. It was a bit overwhelming and made me a little nervous to set up an affiliate program. For some reason, once that happened it all became real. This site was no longer a homework assignment the teacher can read, but anyone read it now. There was a lot I need to do in order to get this…

Week 12- Summary of the Ad

My ad- run a $1 a day ad on my recipe for white rolls. I let the same single ad run the entire time. I knew from the beginning white rolls would be a high, hard to reach recipe. I still wanted to try and see if I could get any reach with keyword research. I kept getting recommendations to use the word, “yeast” for my ad. Funny, because I did that a lot and it had no impressions/clicks when I used that word. One thing I did not expect was the demographic I got for people that did the clicks. One click was in the U.S., and the rest were in India.…

    Week 3- MKT 250

One thing I realized when starting a business is you need help! I know just starting out it’s usually a one person job. There are so many little pieces that go into and running a successful business. Before this week, I only knew a little bit about affiliate marketing and nothing about drop shipping. I learned with drop shipping, you have more control. You are customer service. You name the price on the product your selling. You own customer data. It has the potential to grow over time. Affiliate marketing takes the referred customer to another business and you get commission based on a certain percentage they bought. You are dependent on the…

    Week Two- MKT 250

I thought I knew enough of keyword search, but I realized last week I just barely knew the basics. I usually used keyword search from Neil Patel’s site. I actually never used Keyword Planner on Google. When I first started watching the videos, I thought one of the most important things to focus on was average monthly searches. Then I heard from a video I believe last week that is not what to focus on, especially right now in class. I’m embarrassed to say, I never took much time to focus on “monthly clicks.” That was a bit of a wake up call. I appreciate all the videos submitted for the lessons, because…

Week 10- ROI & Optimization Ad Performance

This week we created an ad to run on our website. I decided to run a ad on homemade white rolls. I defined my target audience on what they were searching for. I researched keywords on Google Keyword Planner that would give me some insight. I played around with different headlines to go on my ad that featured certain keywords people were using. One thing I did not realize before this ad was, I never thought about using the word, “yeast” in any of my headlines, keywords, or well anywhere in the body of my post. Before I just had the word “yeast” when saying when to add it to the bowl or…

Week 9- Relevance and Quality Score

I learned this week how important Google’s Keyword Planner is. When we had an assignment to figure out how to improve a quality score of 7/10 this week for someone’s ad. My first thought was to check out the keywords that dealt with the ad. I found for example more people used the word, “land” than the word “lot” when trying to buy property for a house. It’s an important thing to realize that no matter what we think the correct words people are Googling, might not actually be what they are using. I also leaned the process of Google Ads was a little overwhelming for myself. My host/domain doesn’t offer any ad…
